Black History Month is celebrated for one month, Women's History Month is celebrated for one month, but I celebrate those days 365 days. Each day I look in the mirror and say my daily affirmations before starting the day, "that I was not created to be mediocre, but to stand out", that "I am an Amazing, smart, and beautiful black women". Those affirmations need to be said each day, because when you step out of your house, society begins to tell you who you are in their eyesight. We as African American women are strong, we carry many things on our shoulder, many of us are head of our households, we are doctors, counselors, lawyers, whatever our family needs us to be We Are!
As I began to look and study Harriet Tubman, I saw a strong woman that took on slavery. Her determination was amazing, knowing that at any time she could lose her life trying to help others. These quotes from Harriet are so profound, even for the 21st Century
As I start this journey looking into her life I have connected with the African American History Museum Blog to see new events and information that is available. My desire is to visit the museum one day soon.
