     Black History Month is celebrated for one month, Women's History Month is celebrated for one month, but I celebrate those days 365 days.  Each day I look in the mirror and say my daily affirmations before starting the day, "that I was not created to be mediocre, but to stand out", that "I am an Amazing, smart, and beautiful black women".  Those affirmations need to be said each day, because when you step out of your house, society begins to tell you who you are in their eyesight.  We as African American women are strong, we carry many things on our shoulder, many of us are head of our households, we are doctors, counselors, lawyers, whatever our family needs us to be  We Are!      As I began to look and study Harriet Tubman, I saw a strong woman that took on slavery.  Her determination was amazing, knowing that at any time she could lose her life trying to help others.  These quotes from Harriet are so profound, even for...

My Teaching Philosophy

     Teaching children is a very important job that should not be taken lightly.  Although it is full of challenges, frustrations, and responsibilities, it brings joy when children learn, and you know you were a part of that process.  All children if given the opportunity are capable of learning, some may learn faster or slower, but can grasp information when given on their level.  Teachers should be willing to differentiate instruction to reach and teach all students in their classroom.      Education is very important for individuals to become critical thinkers to make informed decisions.   When we educate students, it opens their minds and allows them to view the world with an innocence and receptiveness.   Working with special needs children for the past 18 years, and being a parent of a Down Syndrome child, has allowed me to see life and education through different glasses.
